On October 22, the Walla YWCA held a Domestic Violence Awareness walk where 25 community members—including local officials and survivors—marched from Heritage Square to the County Courthouse and shared stories and statistics on abuse.
The event, part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, featured chants and informational signs to help raise awareness about domestic violence.
🎓 Education
Dayton School District is holding a race for Director Position 2 as community member Carly Benavides challenges board member Patrick Davidson—who has managed Valley Agronomics and served since February 19—for a two-year term.
Neither candidate has provided campaign details, with only Davidson filling information in the local voters’ guide.
🏛️ Government
The STAR Project struggled after hundreds of federal grants were terminated, which cut nearly 75% of its budget and forced the nonprofit to reduce housing from three to two facilities and lay off seven staff.
Executive Director Elizabeth Rice said the loss of expected grant funds left the program operating on about $20,000 each month while it continued to support clients reentering the community.
