COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Oct. 23, Walla Walla Parks & Rec held its annual pumpkin carving contest at Heritage Square (a popular community spot) where kids had one hour to turn pumpkins into creative art. One returning participant (10-year-old Parker St. Clair) focused on carving an extra scary mouth, highlighting the fun of this fall tradition.  Union-Bulletin

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gesa Credit Union announced it hired Chris Pitts, who brings over twenty years of financial experience, to lead its small business administration team and support local small businesses. Trevor’s Liquid Gold Apple Cider started 2025 pre-orders with discounts for orders picked up by Nov. 9—while a local soda shop brought back hot chocolate and added apple cider to its menu.  Union-Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • Walla Walla will celebrate Día de los Muertos on Saturday, Nov. 1 with a parade starting at 3 p.m. on Palouse Street and then turning onto Second Avenue (the route was adjusted due to permit costs), while a festival at Heritage Square will run from 2 to 8 p.m. featuring live music, food from Tacos La Monarca and Grandma’s Kitchen, free sugar skulls for children, and a Catrina & Catrin Contest from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.  Union-Bulletin
  • At the Walla Walla YWCA, community outreach coordinator Celia Guardado set up an annual Día de los Muertos ofrenda—an altar for domestic violence survivors and families to honor loved ones lost to violence. The display includes photos, candles, and traditional items like concha bread and Coca Cola, coming after Domestic Violence Awareness Month and ahead of celebrations on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.  Union-Bulletin

ECONOMY NEWS

  • College Place Goodwill Employment Center in Walla Walla, which opened in May 2023, helped 67 job seekers in 2024 and is on track to double placements by assisting 120 so far in 2025 through hiring events & community partnerships. The center offers free resume building, job search help and digital literacy classes in English and Spanish and plans to hold more hiring events to further support local employment.  Union-Bulletin
