- ➤ This weekend in Walla Walla, locals can visit Northstar Winery for a wine and candy pairing on Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—and enjoy a Greek tragedy at Harper Joy Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, a family-friendly magic show by Gesa Power House Theatre on Sunday at 2 p.m., and a haunted radio performance at Fort Walla Walla Museum on Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Union-Bulletin
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Walla Walla is starting a program to help fish in Mill Creek by planning a bigger fish ladder at the diversion dam and changing weirs in the flood control channel for young fish. The work will also build a low-flow channel to stop fish from getting trapped—efforts planned with local partners like the Department of Fish and Wildlife and local tribes. Union-Bulletin

- ➤ Walla Walla mother Kalia Wolf, who depends on WIC for her family's food, is worried about losing benefits after November due to the shutdown even though her benefits were extended until January. The USDA provided extra funding to keep food benefits going through mid-to-late November—contracts and further support remain uncertain, risking financial hardship for local families. Union-Bulletin
- ➤ Governor Bob Ferguson announced on October 28 that the state will send $2.2 million per week to food banks as federal SNAP help ends in November due to the government shutdown. The weekly transfers will start on November 3—if the shutdown continues—helping nearly 1 million residents who rely on SNAP. Apple Valley News Now
