  • Walla Walla residents can enjoy several holiday events this weekend — the 45th Mary Stewart Christmas Craft Sale runs on Nov 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Nov 8 with free admission at Milton-Freewater Community Building, Echolands winery holds a pumpkin launch and wine tasting on Nov 7 from 2 to 5 p.m., and the First Foods Festival is set for Nov 8 at 280 Boyer Ave with book signings by Mary Harris and a film screening of These Sacred Hills.  Union-Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • Whitman College is hosting a weekend celebrating Native American culture with a First Foods Station on Friday and a First Foods Festival on Saturday — the station offers traditional foods and a preview screening of The American Revolution along with a community conversation — while the festival features interactive exhibits, the regional premiere of These Sacred Hills and a discussion on cultural preservation.  Union-Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Early election results from Tuesday, Nov. 4 show Sylvia Schaeffer leads Touchet School Board Position 1 with 112 votes — 59% while Joe Zuger leads Position 3 with 114 votes — 61%, ahead of their opponents. Updated county totals will be posted as more ballots are counted before certification on Nov. 25.  Union-Bulletin
  • Write-in candidate Erik Young led the Prescott School Board Position 5 race with 55% of the vote as Tuesday night counts reported 53 votes—2,500 ballots remain to be tallied across Columbia and Walla Walla counties. He previously served on the board for 13 years and is competing against Eric Hartwig and Kaelyn Pyke.  Union-Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • Three wild birds collected near Pioneer Park tested positive for bird flu—two Canada geese and a great horned owl. The County Department of Community Health worked with state partners to track the virus.  Union-Bulletin
