- ➤ Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a free Newcomers Meet Up from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov.15 at the Chamber (29 E. Sumach St) to help recent movers build local connections; representatives will share details on government, education, nonprofits and volunteer opportunities (registration is required). CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This weekend in Walla Walla will feature several music events. Pigs on the Wing will perform full Pink Floyd albums at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14th and Saturday, Nov. 15th at Gesa Power House Theatre while Quartetto Gelato will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Cordiner Hall and a Wicked sing-along along with a cork ornament making class are set for Sunday at 2 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m.—offering a lively mix for local audiences. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The ongoing government shutdown has disrupted the Head Start program at Walla Walla Center for Children and Families as the local school district can no longer access guidance from its regional office, putting child care services and funding in doubt for its 116 students. Furloughed staff and delayed federal grants have forced some centers to use reserve funds—raising concerns that additional programs may soon face closure if the shutdown is not resolved. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Walla Walla nonprofit Blue Mountain Health Cooperative will host a walk-in benefit gala from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at the Cordiner Hall Foyer to help replace a pending $90,000 federal grant and raise at least $45,000; live music, wine and snacks will be available + ticket prices range from $35 to $250.
