Reservations are underway for the Akin SweetHearts for Kids Luncheon where networking begins at 11 a.m. on Feb.
11 and the dining program runs from noon to 1 p.m. at Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center—registration closes Feb. 12. Akin, formed from the merger of Childhaven and Children's Home Society of Washington, also seeks donations to support its busy food pantry amid SNAP delays.
Maria Chavez, a long-time volunteer now serving as the Salvation Army social services coordinator, leads programs that include the Christmas kettle campaign and food pantry to help local families.
She is also preparing for the annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving to raise funds while supporting her daughters in their dance activities.
