- ➤ The Kiwanis Club of Walla Walla held its sixth annual sock drive–collecting 1,150 pairs of socks from community drop-off locations. About 500 pairs went to the Sleep Center and Christian Aid Center with 140 pairs each going to the YMCA, YWCA, Akin, and a local youth resource center–showing strong support for those in need as winter nears. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This weekend, Walla Walla will host festive celebrations as Santa will be serving breakfast at Fire Station 1 at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.—followed by Santa story time with crafts, hot cocoa and a letter station at Tranche Estate from 1 to 4 p.m.; on Sunday, the Holiday Home Tour will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Country Club and Celtic group Everdream will perform A Celtic Christmas at 7 p.m. at Gesa Power House Theatre. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Walla Walla submitted its proposed ‘Sweet Onion’ bike route to the Washington State Scenic Bikeways program to highlight local agritourism, history and scenic views of the Blue Mountains—three city council members have pledged to ride the 38‑mile route if it is selected, which will add new signage and support bike tourism. The route ties together downtown, farms and historic sites to present a diverse experience for cyclists. Union-Bulletin
