Amazon confirms it's behind a West Richland data center campus of up to 21 buildings
The Good Day Walla Walla team
If you've followed Amazon's Wallula Gap project, there's a second one up the road. Amazon Web Services confirmed Monday that it's the buyer behind the $264 million deal for nearly 1,000 acres at West Richland's Lewis & Clark Ranch. Trammell Crow Co. bought the land from the estate of Frank Tiegs in July. Elkhorn Media Group says the project is separate from Amazon's planned campus in Walla Walla County, which is going through permitting.
The campus would grow from 3 buildings to as many as 21
| First phase | Measure | Full buildout |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | Buildings | 21 |
| 10 | Water needed (million gallons a year) | 70 |

At Wallula Gap in 2024, AWS used the alias "Advance Phase LLC" to buy land. The Port of Walla Walla closed that deal in February. In West Richland, about 200 homes sit across Ruppert Road from the site, and residents have pushed back. The city council was set to consider an interim data center moratorium at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
