First Foods Station Live Talk with Martina Gordon

Martina Gordon, a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, will give a talk at the First Foods Station in Cleveland Commons Dining Hall about the ceremonial order in which traditional First Foods are arranged and served during our longhouse dinners. The sequencial placement of foods reflects tribal creation stories and an ecological order in which the water, the water animals, the land animals, and the plants - specifically roots and berries - promised to sustain and nourish the people.
