  • The Walla Walla Chamber announced a series of late-summer and fall events—including a two-day Tour D’ Farm to explore local agriculture, Tuesday’s Conversations That Count on Aug.12, a Habitat for Humanity ribbon cutting on Aug.22, and a Chamber After Hours event on Aug.26—that will boost local engagement and business networking.  Union-Bulletin
  • Kay Raddatz, sorting donated books for the local scholarship fundraiser, found an eight-decade-old letter written by Marine Corps Pvt. John ‘Jack’ Hogben and used genealogy websites and local contacts—she returned the letter and memorabilia to Bruce Kron, a living relative of Hogben’s family.  Union-Bulletin

  • Solutions In-Home Care, a Tri-Cities agency that helps seniors, is opening its second office at 1410 Plaza Way Suite B in Walla Walla to meet rising care needs. Baker Boyer Bank has partnered with the Christian Aid Center to donate $25,000 for a new shelter while L’Ecole No.41 Winery celebrates its 110th anniversary with special guest experiences and the American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Aug. 7 at the Marcus Whitman Hotel — 6 W.   • Stagecoach opened in May in downtown Weston to serve coffee, hot dogs, and light meals + its owner Vicky Mast designed the space to show off local Old West history and offer a place for community gatherings.  Union-Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kamdean Saager, 13, from Milton-Freewater competed in Sweden at the World Union of Karate-Do Federations Championships held from July 9 to 13 among 1,684 athletes from 29 countries. He won first place in Kumite sparring, placed second in open hand Kata and long weapons, and placed third in short weapons — he has trained at the Karate Center of Walla Walla.  Union-Bulletin
