COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Innovia Foundation has opened its 2026 Community Grants Program accepting nonprofit applications from Eastern Washington & North Idaho. It supports projects in arts, economic opportunity, education, health and quality of life and offers a $1,000 early-bird grant drawing if applied by Jan. 9, with a final deadline of Feb. 6.  Waitsburg Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Walla Walla High School students in Peggy Payne's plant biology class use a $10,000 grant to power an aeroponic system that grows vegetables for school lunches — their first harvest on Dec. 2 served Sharpstein Elementary on Dec. 5 and taught them business skills.  Union-Bulletin
  • A Waitsburg resident said that FFA students clearing fallen leaves shows how local schools boost community life and sustain jobs, especially as support for an upcoming school levy is urged (Joy Marie Smith).  Waitsburg Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide emergency on Dec. 9 in Camp Murray (Wash.) to manage flooding from an atmospheric river that brought rain, high winds and heavy snowfall. He will request expedited federal aid as forecasts warn record floods tonight and tomorrow.  Apple Valley News Now
