If you drive, walk or bike through Chestnut Street and Third Avenue, the city wants to hear from you. Chestnut has no stop signs at the junction now, and Third has two-way stop control. The city ordered a safety review after 15 crashes were recorded there between 2020 and 2025.

An all-way stop is anticipated to reduce crashes by up to 70% and make crossing safer for pedestrians. Drivers on Chestnut would wait about nine seconds longer at peak hours, while Third Avenue drivers would wait about 10 seconds less.

Chestnut carries more cars, and waits would shift on both streets

The city also looked at removing street parking to improve sight lines for drivers turning from Third. It isn't the preferred option because of the lost neighborhood parking.
